Next Week

nextweekCheck back next week for these posts and more:

1. A review of Defeating Depression by Leslie Vernick

As we gear up for our October seminar on counseling depression I have been doing a wide array of reading on the subject of depression. This volume by Vernick, a licensed social worker and Biblical Counselor is very good. She combines professional skill and sensitive tone in a well-crafted book that balances biological, psychological, and spiritual components of depression.

2. Studies in Leviticus: The Blood of Bulls and Goats

If Leviticus suggests that the sacrifices do in fact deal with sin, then what does the author of Hebrews mean when he says they couldn’t take away sin? This is a theological conundrum that needs to be addressed and wrestled with well. There’s some potential help in thinking about the geography of holiness in Leviticus, and I’ll discuss that more next week.

3. Books that Shaped My Faith: Ashamed of the Gospel by John F. MacArthur Jr.

In this new series I will be surveying some of the foundational works that influenced my faith over the years. I will begin with this classic work that I stumbled upon by accident. While I might nuance my agreement with MacArthur more these days, at the time the book was earth-shattering to me.

4. Ask Pastor Dave: Should I Attend a Gay Wedding?

If you haven’t been invited yet, you most likely will be. This is an important question to wrestle with before that invitation is offered, so I will do my best to think through it with you all next week.
