God of This City

I came across a worship song the other day that I had never heard of, which isn’t uncommon (I am not up to speed on most praise and worship music these days). But this particular song so struck me that I began to weep and became so excited about the words I was hearing, because, after all, these particular words have a great deal of meaning to me in my ministry. In fact, these words very nearly encapsulate all that I want my ministry to be about. The words go as follows:

You’re the God of this city

You’re the King of these people

You’re the Lord of this nation

You are

You’re the Light in this darkness

You’re the Hope to the hopeless

You’re the Peace to the restless

You are

There is no one like Our God

There is no one like Our God

Greater things have yet to come

and Greater things are still to be done in this city

My heart beats so much for God’s transforming power to change my city. I love my city and I beleive that, as Paul wrote, God has many people in this city. I pray that the Lord Jesus Christ indeed would be the God of this city, and that greater things are still to be done here!
