Here’s what you should expect next week at Pastor Dave Online:
1. A review of Jonathan Edwards and the Metaphysics of Sin by Oliver Crisp
Though it is definitely an academic philosophical volume, it’s actually quite compelling. Crisp does a good job of helping readers understand both the internal cogency and yet ultimately the external inconsistencies of Edwards thought on the nature, origin, and transmission of sin.
2. Edwardsian Anxieties: Fear
I was surprised to learn in my studies this year that Edwards had a long-enduring fear that he was not actually converted. He was often overwhelmed with doubt and concerned that he had been deceived. Next week we’ll explores some of this anxiety in Edwards.
3. Inerrancy and Worldview: Modern Challenges to Inerrancy (Part 26)
Next week we will consider how the principle of analogy helps us to address some of the sociological challenges to the doctrine of inerrancy.
4. Thinking Rightly About Miracles: Immediacy
We have said that two elements have helped theologian shape their definition of miracles: nature and immediacy. Next week we will take a look at the second one of these two and see if it offers any better clarification than the element of “nature” did.
