A Michigan Update

ComericaThe hot dog was thick, with mustard dripping off the end of it. There’s something wonderful about a ballpark frank. They’re even better when you’re eating one at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers. The Dunhams have officially been in Michigan for almost a month, and we are making ourselves at home.

In the last month we have found some great restaurants. We love the myriad of choices: Indian, Pakistani, Lebanese, Italian, Mediterranean, etc. The influence of Middle Eastern culture in the Metro has provided Krista and I with a host of delicious dining options. The kids are still enjoying a Happy Meal most of those days, but we are hoping to encourage them to be more adventurous in the near future.

We are learning the area slowly, but with great delight. We continue to look for a house; the market has changed dramatically so that there are more buyers now than properties available. We are trusting God to provide us with the right home in the right neighborhood.

Our daughter has been accepted into a local school and is looking forward to starting in the fall. She has made a few good friends and seems to be adapting to life well here. Z is adjusting more slowly. He seems frustrated and desires his old routines. Krista and I think he’ll do much better once we have a place of our own and we can bring all our things up from Ohio.

Work goes well and we continue to fall in love with the people at Cornerstone. They are a healthy church full of people who love Jesus, care about the lost, and support their pastors. For that we are extremely grateful. I am looking forward in the next month to start visiting small groups, and Krista and I are anxious to start spending some Thursday nights with our recovery program and walking alongside the men and women there.

It certainly been an adjustment living here. There’s more traffic. Sometimes the diversity and plethora of options can be overwhelming. Often we are shocked by the differences in church culture here versus Revolution back in Ohio. These and many other things take some getting used to, some adjusting. We are enjoying ourselves, though, and thankful that God has brought us here. We are slowly becoming at home in Michigan…go Tigers!
