Moving is always an adventure! In the almost nine years that Krista and I have been married we have moved a total of 6 times. You’d think by now that we could anticipate any and all surprises, but really we’ve just learned to laugh at ourselves and experiences more readily. Our recent move to the Detroit metro area has been no different. There’s plenty to laugh at, at this move came with its own brand of adventure.
The week leading up the move had its own events. Krista had a small procedure done on Tuesday that kept her off her feet for a little while. She continues to seek answers for what has made her sick. She also turned 30 on Monday. Needless to say it has been a week of life changes for her. Nothing like leaving your 20s, going into the hospital, and moving to Detroit to make for a memorable month.
The trip itself was full of unwelcome surprises as well. Our son had been battling a stomach virus all last week. We no sooner packed up all our cleaning supplies then he puked in multiple rooms of the house. Boxes were re-opened. We thought that he was doing better as we loaded up the car on Saturday morning and made for our new home. An hour into the trip he informed us “there’s a throw up coming.” And it did…and then again inside a Speedway. But we arrived, puke and all.
Our first Sunday at Cornerstone was yesterday, and we were all excited to go to worship with our new church family. Half-way through a discipleship class, however, I became ill. Sweat began to pour, I felt “a throw-up coming on” but thankfully did not. To everyone who’s hand I shook yesterday let me say that I am so very sorry if I gave you some virus. I spent most of yesterday asleep on the couch praying that I could come to work this morning, my first official day in the office. I am here, feeling well, and excited about what the day holds.
This move has not been short on adventure, and I am certain there is more to come. But we are so glad to be here. We are grateful for all the blessings that the church has provided for us in this move, not just with food and warm welcomes, but particularly for the Mission House. As we look for a home it is a great relief to be provided with a beautiful place to live while we search. And to be able to walk to the church is an added luxury.
As I start my first day in the office I am excited about what God is doing and is going to do. Adventure seems like the right word to use. Not just because we had a crazy moving experience, but because serving God is always an adventure. After all, how else do you describe a move from Portsmouth, OH to Detroit but as an Adventure?
Welcome to Cornerstone! There are many great homes for sale in Grosse Pointe, excellent schools, parks and community!
Thanks so much, Ann
