Ways You Can Pray for the Dunhams

easter2013As we prepare to make the move to Detroit many of you have asked how you can help us. The support and love that we have been show is just overwhelming and much appreciated. Many of you have donated boxes, helped with our yard sale, offered to watch the kids, or simply brought me a cup of coffee (always welcomed). I cannot express our appreciation and love for this community, especially this community of believers. Truth be told, however, the best thing you can do is pray for us. So I’ve put together a little list of some specific ways you can pray for our family as we transition to a new context and a new ministry.

Praying for the Dunhams:

1. Pray that we would pursue Jesus –> Many of you know how easy it is to get wrapped up in life and routines, and dramatic changes can make it even harder to focus on Jesus. There’s always something to do be done. Boxes to pack, boxes to unpack, people to call, stores to locate, schools to visit, etc. It would be easy to spend so much of our time focused on adapting to this new life that we forget to spend real time with Jesus. I don’t want that for our family. Pray that we stay focused and pursue Jesus even as we make this transition.

2. Pray for my kids –> Kids are resilient and I am certain that once we get involved in life they will be excited and will adapt well. But I also know it will be hard for them not to be around their Nana and their grandma, their aunts and uncles, their cousins. It will be hard on my daughter to start at a new school. It will be hard on my wife to not have immediate babysitters that our kids know and are comfortable with. So you can pray that they adapt well and that we do our best to help them.

3. Pray that Krista and I will help each other –> In the almost nine years that Krista and I have been married we’ve moved five times. We’re familiar with the process, but this is a very different kind of move for us. There will be many situations where we will need help from each other. Pray that we are attentative to each other’s needs, worries, and frustrations. Pray that we take time to encourage each other regularly. Pray that we ask for help when we need it and don’t simply expect the other person to notice.

4. Pray that we serve Cornerstone well –> We want to jump right in and begin serving alongside the staff, elders, and folks at Cornerstone church in Roseville. We are excited about what God is doing there and the role that has been opened up to me. Pray that we would invest our time, our energy, and ourselves into this congregation. Pray that we would be faithful to the task and that God would bless our efforts.

5. Finally, pray for the details –> There are countless little things that we have to get done. We have a life to pack up into boxes, we have a house to sell, a house to find and buy, we have travels to make, a child to enroll in school, and countless other little things. Pray that we can get them all done quickly and completely. Pray that we don’t allow ourselves to become overwhelmed and frustrated. Pray that we find the answers we need and receive the help we desire to solve some of these issues.

Thank you all for your help and prayers. As we prepare to go we expect that God’s grace will continue and that your love and support will be a means of supplying that grace to our lives regularly.

  1. Praying for you always. This Nana is going to miss those precious kiddos so much. But, we are all going to be fine with this. God is in it and He only does good. Praying for you and Krista….and for the many, many details. I am here…we are here…whatever you need, please let us know and let us help. Love you all!
