1) The Deep Things of God by Fred Sanders
This is already proving to be a very important book for me. I am currently teaching a course on evangelism and so we are discussing the nature of the gospel a lot. Sanders argues that the Trinity is inherently connected to the gospel, and while I would affirm this I wasn’t sure how best to appropriate that reality as a functional reality. Sanders is all about that.
2) The Doctrine of the Word of God by John Frame
As I wrap up my year-long study of the doctrine of Scripture I have saved one of the best books for last (well almost last). I love John Frame’s writing and theology and this book is one of his best!
3) At The Altar of Sexual Idolatry by Steven Gallagher
One of the most common subjects I end up counseling young men on is pornography. So whenever someone tells me about a book on the subject that I’ve not read I try to pick it up. So far I am not overly impressed with the work. Gallagher seems to have a perfectionist bent to his theology, though I am not certain on that point yet. Time will tell if it can add anything to the counseling of young men.
If you know of a book that I should read share it, I am always on the look out for new material.
