God, Revelation, and Authority

My first major reading project for the year is to tackle all six volumes of Carl F. Henry’s God, Revelation, and Authority. Henry’s work is considered a lost landmark of the Neo-Evangelical movement, yet it is not a work dated by useless theological battles and arcane social hot buttons of yesteryear. Rather Henry’s work is a masterful and Biblical defense of the issues that my generation is wrestling with today. Written in 1976 it has much to say about the matters of truth, authority, and Biblical revelation today.

My good friend Pastor Matt is also working his way through the work and I am excited as he analyzes and summarizes each chapter. Though Henry’s writing is sometimes dense, and fairly academic (especially as he explains and critiques various philosophical trends from history) the work speaks with a plainness about Biblical revelation that is much appreciated. When most talk about revelation is conflated with neo-orthodox and post-foundationalist assumptions it’s nice to see straight forward speech about God’s Holy Word. I commend the works to you and encourage you to read along with Pastor Matt’s weekly summaries.
