Life Update

After 18 years in pastoral ministry I woke up today not a pastor. It’s been a sobering realization. “Pastor” has been such a part of my identity for so long it feels sadder and harder than I thought it would to lose that title. We love our church and we love the ministry, but we also felt like the Lord was calling us into new work. So, we are excited to announce that I have moved full-time into my role as a Biblical Counselor at Sparrow and Heart Soul Care.

The purpose of the move was three fold:

  1. We have had a number of opportunities offered to us through the business that we have had to turn down due to time and conflicting responsibilities. We would love to serve every church, every organization, and every individual who reaches out for help or invites us to participate in an event. We simply couldn’t do it, but now we have significantly more flexibility to engage with a broader range of events and individuals.
  2. The need for counseling is still massive and the number of individuals who do not have access to Biblical Soul Care around the country (world?) is huge. Through Sparrow and Heart Soul Care we can offer services to more people who live in regions where Biblical Counseling is simply not available. Our virtual offerings can provide accessibility to people all over and we are passionate about providing competent care where there is none.
  3. I have spent years developing workshops and seminars for both counselors and sufferers, but they have been largely offered in-house to our congregation. Through Sparrow & Heart Soul Care we can expand those offerings to more people and see more individuals equipped, helped, and encouraged in their work and struggles. We are excited to offer these services in the near future.
  4. Finally, we love the local church but recognize that many congregations do not have the luxury of a full-time Biblical Counselor or a Biblical Counseling ministry. Through our church-partnership program we can provide a set number of counseling hours to congregations and their staff to offset some of the burdens that they face.

For all of these things reasons and more I have made this transition at this time. We are looking forward to what the Lord will do. Would you pray with us for this ministry, and would you encourage those you know who have needs to reach out to Sparrow and Heart Soul Care. We’d love to help them.

  1. Praying for you, brother. This has taken away any conflict of interest, which is really a great thing. Looking forward to what the Lord will do. Blessings, Terri
