Here’s what you can expect to find here at Pastor Dave Online next week:
1. A review of Recovering Classic Evangelicalism: Applying the Wisdom and Vision of Carl F. H. Henry by Gregory Alan Thornbury
This is way more than a biography of Carl F. Henry. It’s a book about how Henry’s vision for a meaningful, vibrant, and culturally relevant Evangelicalism can and should be recovered today. Thornbury is a gifted writer with a compelling voice and an erudite familiarity with Henry’s work. I loved this book and found it both challenging and motivating.
2. The “Heart” of the Atonement (Part 2): Models of the Atonement
Next week we will review the various models of the atonement and the Scriptural support for each. Such knowledge can help us both appreciate the various dimensions of the glory of the cross and help us understand why the discussions about a “heart” to the atonement can be troublesome if not couched carefully.
3. Community Built on the Cross
Everyone knows that community is important, but for small groups to be healthy they need to be built on the foundation of the cross. Next week we’ll explore what this looks like and why it matters.
4. Why Spend A Year Studying Discipleship?
Every year I pick a year-long project to study, and this year it’s discipleship. Next week I’ll explain why this study co-opted my original plans and where it’s headed.
