1. A review of Community by Brad House

If it is sometimes redundant, this is an extremely helpful book on building healthy small groups in your church. I am still thinking through all the logistics of it and thinking through how it can be helpful to our small group ministry at CBC, but I will be giving a full review next week.

2. The “Heart” of the Atonement?: The Problem

Next week I will begin a new series exploring the subject of Penal Substitutionary Atonement. It is often called the “heart” or center of the Bible’s doctrine of atonement. I have wrestled in recent years with this expression and whether or not it is proper to speak of one aspect of the atonement above all the others. Next week I will begin to explore this subject more carefully.

3. Small Groups and Spiritual Evaluations

In our small group ministry at CBC we emphasize the importance of gauging spiritual growth and health in our people. I want our leaders to encourage mutual accountability and assist the elders in helping to make sure we are all growing together in knowledge and holiness. That’s why I emphasize the importance of the Four C’s for our small group ministry. Next week we’ll take a closer look at them and their application to small groups.
