Here are some selections from around the Web that I found interesting this week:
1) “Asteroid Killed Off Dinosaurs? A New Study Suggests Comet Instead Caused Extinction Event” by Tanya Lewis
I’ve been a dino geek since I was a little boy, so when I saw this headline my interest was piqued. As is often the case with news media, the headline is more compelling than the actual story, but this is nonetheless going to be an ongoing and interesting discussion among experts.
2) “Should Christians Boycott Starbucks” by Russell D. Moore
I love Russ Moore’s writing because he so often brings balance to conversations within the Evangelical community. That’s what he does here as people reacted to news that Starbucks supports Gay Marriage. Moore makes a great observation about the message that boycotts send ultimately, namely that those with the most money and power can force others to accommodate them. Such a move, Moore says, is the exact opposite of what Christians believe. This is worth a read, friends.
3) “Marriage in the Dock: The Supreme Court Considers Same-Sex Marriage” by Albert Mohler
Mohler gives a good overview and introduction to the Supreme Court case concerning DOMA and Proposition 8 happening right now.
4) “Russell Moore Elected ERLC President” by Tom Strode
Baptist Press covers the election of the new Ethics and Religious Liberty Council President. I am thrilled that Richard Land is gone and I can think of no one better for this position than Dr. Moore. He will surely be missed at SBTS, but he will be valued by a wider audience of SBCers now.
5) “Interview: Why Josh Garrels Is Giving Away His Music To Support Peace-Building in Congo” by Belinda Bauman
I love Josh Garrels music and as I come to know more about the man himself I love him as a person too. Here’s a great interview on why Garrels gave away an entire lifetime of work! I love that Huffington Post covered this.
6) “Greatest Dad Ever Creates a Calving & Hobbes Nursery Complete with Tree Fort” by Casey Chan
What kid wouldn’t want to grow up with Calvin & Hobbes!
7) “Frequently Searched for Questions: Antimatter Opposed by the Church” by Alan Noble
Noble’s weekly contribution of hilarious!
8) “A Social Experiment Without Science Behind It” by Nelson Lund
A fantastic piece in the WSJ points the lack of science behind many of the social and behavioral studies on same-sex parenting. Lund points to the lack of available data and the bias behind a lot of present studies.
