This Week’s Good Reads

morning paperIf you’re looking for something to read this weekend, then I might recommend some of these articles, found from around the web:

1) “How Athens, Ohio became a basketball town” by Zac Jackson

This is a great article about my school and about Dan Lowe. When I went to OU I knew Dan more for his role in Campus Crusade for Christ, but this is a great story about his role in inspiring basketball fandom at Ohio University.

2) “Leave Baby Bear and His Doll Alone” by Jason Morehead

This is a brilliant response to what seems like a rather inane response to a rather innocuous cultural element. I love my brother Owen, but this article offers a helpful correction to what I see as extreme misunderstandings of what exactly Biblical masculinity is. Even as a self-identified complimentarian I find this whole discussion as ridiculous. Thanks to Jason for bringing some nuance to it.

3) “I am Not Abraham’s Mistake” by Derek Rishmawy

This Christian brother of Palestinian heritage asks us to consider how our view of Arabs might be unbiblical. This is really a beautiful piece and it’s sad that it needed written at all.

4) “Obama Mixes Up ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars’ With ‘Jedi Mind Meld’ Quip” by Darlene Superville

Nerds everywhere are rightly calling for impeachment!

5) “How to Be Mentored Without A Mentor” by Jodi Ware

A wonderful and practical piece from the wife of Dr. Bruce Ware. The principles here are good for both men and women.
