Pastor Dave Online in 2013

The Lofts 010As the new year starts I have been thinking frequently about what my plans for the blog will be in 2013. I anticipate reaching my 1,000th post and want to do something exciting for that. And, as usual, you can expect near weekly book reviews from old and new publications. But here is a look at some of the other things I anticipate doing this year at Pastor Dave Online:

1. Year-Long Study Project: Jonathan Edwards –> Every year I pick a subject to study and this year my plan is to study the life and theology of “America’s Greatest Theologian.” I have only ever scratched around the surface of this esteemed figure from American life, but this year I intend to dig deep. I have a stack of both personal and theological biographies, and the Works of Edwards awaiting me. I look forward to gleaning not just information about Edwards but also about the God whom Edwards loved and served. Check back for regular updates and blog posts on this project.

2. Pray For One Another: Praying Paul’s Prayer for the Colossians –> This multi-part post will look at the specific prayer that Paul prays for the church at Colossae and encourage us as Christians to pray the same specifics for the people in our churches. This I hope will be a good encouragement to me and to our folks at Revolution to pray for one another seriouslys, consistently, and earnestly.

3. Inerrancy and Worldview –> Vern Poythress’ book had such a profound impact on me at the end of last year that I want to dig deep into what he has written and think through the specifics of each chapter. So, I will spend some time in the first part of 2013 developing a multi-post series that aims to express Poythress’ understanding of how our worldview relates to the concept of Biblical inerrancy.

4. Understanding Miracles –> Both Christians and non-Christians alike seem to have a terrible understanding of the Biblical theology of miracles. So my plan in 2013 is to spend some time reflecting on the subject and unpacking how it should be understood. It is more than an apologia for the miraculous workings of God,and more than a correction for the attempts to manipulate God’s power. It is a practical series that will aim to help Christians live with the anticipation of God’s miraculous workings in their life.

5. Can We Know Jesus? –> It is popular to talk about God and Jesus as if they are so mysterious that nothing can be known about them. While I fully concede the mystery of the Godhead, I want to wrestle next year with what the Bible actually says about how we can actually know God.
