Here some posts and articles from around the web that I enjoyed reading this week, maybe you’ll find one you like too:
1) “Why Complimentarianism Can’t Be a “Gospel” Issue” by R. Scott Clark
Again, as a complimentarian, I can’t agree more with this article. If we turn every important issue into a “gospel” issue we come perilously close to confusing sanctification with justification, and that’s how legalism is born! Here R. Scott Clark outlines his reasons for why this is not a “gospel” issue, even though it’s still an important one.
2) “Abraham’s Covenant Family” by John Sartelle
This encouraging piece from Ligonier Ministries discusses the identity Christians have in the legacy of Abraham. We are not Abraham’s children because of our obedience to keeping the law, but because of Jesus. It’s a powerful reminder of our identity and worthy of your time.
3) “A Philosopher Defends Religion” by Thomas Nagel
Atheist Thomas Nagel reviewed Alving Plantinga’s new book and says it does it’s job! He says that Plantinga’s argument is well grounded and Naturalists must answer it! On a side note, when Plantinga comes to Shawnee State University to speak on the subject of his new book you will not want to miss it! He will be here in the beginning of November.
4) “Kingdom Through Covenant Authors Respond to Bock, Moo, and Horton” by Peter Gentry and Steven Wellum
The authors of this new book take their chance to respond to the criticisms which TGC posted last week.
5) “Problems with a New Reading of an Old Verse” by Wendy Alsup
As part of a discussion going on at TGC, Wendy Alsup offers her interpretation of Genesis 3:16 and the phrase “her desire shall be for her husband.” The commonly held interpretation today suggests that this means a woman will try to usurp her husband’s role as head of the family. Alsup argues, rather convincingly, that not only is this a new interpretation but one that requires us to do hermeneutical gymnastics to arrive at. What do you think?
