Here’s what you don’t want to miss at Pastor Dave Online next week:
1) A review of Interpreting the Prophetic Word by Willem VanGemeren
This is easily the best book I have ever read on Old Testament prophetic literature. That may not be saying much as such a category isn’t a huge section in my library, but I suspect it would always be this way. VanGemeren not only gives us the tools to understand the prophets but he puts those books within the larger picture of Biblical theology. Incredibly useful book! This is now my second time working through it.
2) Who Were the Prophets?
My church is spending the summer hanging out in the prophets and so accompanying my preaching this weekend I will be working through some introductory materials here at the blog as well. There is a fair amount of confusion around the role of the classical prophets of the Old Testament. Understanding them better will help us to interpret them better.
3) Moses, Samuel, and Elijah: The Proto-Prophets
These three Old Testament characters were the models for the later Classical Prophets. Next week we will see how they shaped the prophetic ministry.
4) Jesus: the Fulfillment of the Prophets
The prophets, like all of the Old Testament, point us forward to Jesus. Understanding that connection is key to understanding and reading the prophets correctly.
