This article very adequately describes some of the frustrations that I and others experienced while going through seminary. The financial cost, the toll it takes on families, and the sometimes general lack of help that seminary education can provide for the immediate needs of pastoral ministry are frustrating to say the least. This is why I am such a huge fan of Revolution Church’s Free Seminary!
In Free Seminary Pastor Matt Rawlings has devised a method of theological education that is both affordable (free!) and practical. The turnout for our first semester has been huge and the commitment level has been astounding. I am privileged and excited to be teaching the students I have. I am more excited about the kinds of theological students, pastors, and lay men and women that this program will produce. It’s really a form of intensive discipleship, and that’s what seminary should be about.
