Poverty and Depravity

This was a very thoughtful post from David French on the relationship between social ministry and gospel ministry. Justin Taylor highlights a key piece from the post here.

As a pastor who believes strongly in the importance of social ministry and yet more strongly in the desperate need for gospel ministry I loved this article. I work with two churches in our town that are very socially conscious and yet both readily recognize the uselessness of social outreach detached from the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is important that our events and our ministries do not become hollow hand-outs but seek to bring real life-change to people.

Why do you think so many people try to separate the two?
